Non TLD Domains are getting white hot..
Whoever said .coms were the only way to build value..was wrong. Dead wrong.
Example, you request?
Sale of condo.fm shows the value in island domain names..
Domain name condo.fm has been sold this week for $30,000. As domain names including generic keywords with most common extensions .com, .org, .net, .info and .biz are becoming less available and more expensive, island domains and non TLD are gaining ground in the domain price wars. $30,000 sounds like a lot of money to spend for condo.fm, however, the same domain name with a .com extension would demand at minimum a 6 figure price. While clearly not at the same level as .com’s, island domains such as .fm and .ky are seeing their sale prices on the up and up.
Another extension that could potentially see a rise in sale prices are the .cm domains. This extension could prove to be potentially lucrative, banking on incorrect spellings of .com. At this point, the .cm domains are still at a low price point, but if current trends continue, one day you could find yourself newly retired with a few strategic .cm purchases.
There still a lot of people out there who would argue that you are wasting your time going after domain names ending in anything other than .com or .net. I would be inclined to disagree with these folks… It is not always practical to change your business name if your domains are taken in the .com and .net variety. For you developers out there, the market is picked bare in the .com and .net realms. Does this mean that the market has been exhausted? Absolutely not! Domains with extensions such as .info, .us, .fm, and others are seeing sale prices hitting record levels daily; for instance, travel.info just recently sold for $116,000; hardly a small sum by anyone’s standards.
TLD’s are still bringing the top dollar from buyers, however, you can still fetch good value on many other domain extensions. The overhwelmingly important factor in the domain selling business is brandability, and generic terms. Maximize these two, and you will surely maximize your profits when it comes time to put your valued domain names up for sale.
